Vintage pink Ourika / Boucherouite Berber Rug - 6’5”x 4ft (196x122cm)
Vintage pink Ourika rug. This rug would make a great kitchen rug, kids room rug or to brighten up a home office space. Personally I find it makes an excellent wall hanging as it's detailed mix of colors really shine and it's imperfect diamonds make for a very interesting focal point of a room. This rug is in excellent condition and really sings how special it is in person. If you look closely you will also find a few hints of metal sequins often found in Moroccan wedding blankets which are meant to bring good luck. Colors include: bright pink, white, yellow, light blue, red and grey.
The weavers of the Ourika valley are known for including Amazigh (Berber) symbols into their rugs. Particularly common are diamonds layered within diamond patterns which represents an eye used for protection against the “evil eye”. You will also notice the saw-tooth pattern around the diamonds which represents metal workers who are highly respected as metal is thought to keep away "jnoun" (jnoun is very rough translated is bad luck). So this rug is chock full of good luck symbols and protection.

Our rugs are handmade in Morocco from 100% wool each taking several weeks to months to create. We partner directly with talented Amazigh (Berber) weavers supplying them with whatever they need and ensure they are paid fairly. This cuts out any reliance on middle-men merchants passing through their villages offering to buy rugs at too low cost to then reselling in the major cities across Morocco. Most of the women we work with weave at home while others work in local collectives with other weavers. It is a beautiful community of sisterhood and shared experience gathered around craft. By purchasing a made-to-order rug from us you are supporting fair pay and keeping the traditions of hand-making rugs alive as a viable way to earn a living for future generations.
All vintage rugs are as sold “as is” with the understanding that they are subject to normal wear consistent with age. All rugs are cleaned and repaired prior to shipping.
