Beautiful in its simplicity and open space. Contemporary natural white wool area rug with brown Berber symbols handmade in Morocco. Made from 100% natural hand-spun wool. Minimal design great for a neutral space with its calming minimal abstract design. Perfect for bedroom, living room, baby room...

Contemporary Moroccan rugs are new rugs handmade in the same manner as they have been made for hundreds of years. These new contemporary versions can be found in almost any size or color you choose. They can even be custom made to order to a design of your choosing. Unlike vintage rugs which were confined by the size of the personal looms found within the homes of the Amazigh (Berber) women, the newer contemporary rugs are often made outside of the home where women from the village will come to work together on new pieces. This is a great opportunity for women to earn money as well as support the tradition of hand making rugs so that it continues to be passed on through generations.

All of our rugs are handmade in Morocco by women using traditional techniques of the nomadic Amazigh (Berber) tribes. Each tribe possesses its own distinctive style defined by color, pattern, technique and materials. Because the Amazigh language was traditionally non-written, women utilized rug making as a medium of personal expression and story telling passed down over generations. Traditionally the women do not work from any preset plans, but instead respond intuitively to their looms row by row revealing the full composition of their creation only once the rug is completed and removed from the loom. Each rug takes several weeks to months to create.

All rugs are as sold “as is” with the understanding that any “vintage” rugs are pre-owned and subject to normal wear consistent with age. Any cleaning or restorations are made at our discretion prior to shipping. If you would like to make a cleaning or restoration requests please let us know before placing your order.

Keep your rug in good condition by regularly shaking out or vacuuming to remove any dirt and debris. Use suction only settings on vacuums, do not use a beater bar or rotating brush which can damage the fibers of your rug. Professional cleaning is recommended as needed. Rug pads are also recommended to minimize wear on the knots and to keep your rug from sliding around.
